Version 0.08 07-Jul-2005 - First General Release |
This program is only suitable for use on an Iyonix computer running RISC OS 5 This is beta software - any bugs, suggestions etc. should be sent to the address at the end of this file. PC TV cards for analogue TV generally have one of two PCI bus chips type fitted. This program only works with the SAA7134 chip from Philips. This chip is fitted to recent versions of the Pinnacle Rave TV cards. Earlier Rave cards were generally fitted with the BT878 chip from Conexant, for this type of card you need Simon Wilson's software available from http://pcitv.iconbar.com | |||||||||||||
Installing the TV card: |
Follow the instructions that came with the TV card to install it into the computer. Iyonix specific instructions can be obtained from Simon Wilson's site. You might also like to read some additional information on using an internal audio connection. |

Installing the program: |
Install Remote to a suitable location on your hard drive. |
Setting up the program for the first time: |
Before you can use the program to watch off air TV broadcasts, you will need to set up the channels for your local area. First, make sure the aerial is plugged in, then load Remote. The first time Remote is run, it will open a Channel Search window as well as the Remote and Display windows. Depending on your location, you now have one or two options:
If you live in the service area of one of the following transmitters then you can skip the Channel Search. To skip the search close the Channel Search window and from the icon bar menu, select Choices... Once the Confix window opens, click the Profiles button to select a transmitter profile and then Save to make this your current Profile.
If none of the above profiles suit your needs then first select your country (if the required country is not listed then see Adding Country Profiles) and then click Go in the Channel Search window to start the search. Once the search has completed, the TV picture will be set to the first channel found, the search window will close and ConfiX will open. The found channels will be shown but they will be in ascending broadcast channel order. Not the conventional BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Ch4, five order. You will now need to manually shuffle the channels and name them. It's probably best to make a note of the channel numbers listed and identify the programme name for that number before starting the shuffle process. For example, in my area, the first entry will be 21, which is Channel 4, the fourth entry will be 31, which is BBC1. (the second and third in my case are already in the correct position). So the need is to swap the first and fourth entries. Using the up/down bump icons change the first entry to 31 and the fourth to 21. Now all that remains is to name the channels, enter a name of your choice, but limited to 18 characters. To see the effect of any changes without loosing the ConfiX window, click Save with the Adjust button. Once you are happy with the setup, click Save with Select to save the final result and exit ConfiX. If you have any problems in getting this set up, a visit to the BBC's TV reception help site might help. If all else fails, send me details of your local TV transmitter, the results of the channel search or your postcode and I'll build a Choices file for you. Known Bugs: |
There are a few bugs you need to be aware of: The TV display only works in 16M colour modes. There is some minor corruption of the TV display window furniture when moving the window around the screen. The bottom two/three rows of the picture window sometimes contains garbage following a channel change. A slight re-size of the picture window will get rid of the garbage. |
